Community Safety for All

The Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation has demonstrated that it is serious about reducing the rates of domestic and family violence through its support of a number of organisations and the NT Police.

Funds have been raised across dinners held in 2015 and 2016 and resulted in a project officer being based in the region to address domestic and family violence.

In 2017, the Corporation was the platinum sponsor for the inaugural Indigenous Family Violence Policing Conference held in Alice Springs. In June 2018, the conference was again sponsored by the Corporation and was held at Yirrkala. Police jurisdictions from across the nation attended.

We have been able to reduce family violence by 27.9% at Yirrkala. We did that by holding lots of alcohol free events.

The Social Programs have extended Domestic and Family Violence education across different areas. The Rirratjingu Football Program and Djarrak Football Club set the standard for fellow Gove Peninsula teams by designing and living to its Domestic Violence Action Plan. The plan was developed with support of the No More Campaign.
